A SPECIAL SECTION FOR THOSE
WHO PREPARE FOR SHABBOS

AN OLD HEBREW EXPRESSION STATES: THOSE
WHO PREPARE
FOR SHABBOS EAT ON SHABBOS

 VOICES FROM THE EZRAS NASHIM

The truth of Koheles’ statement that there is a time to laugh and a time to cry continues to be the pattern of our lives this week.

Following a wonderful Shabbos during which we met with old and new friends and sang with gusto I received word of the passing of a colleague. Denise St. Fort was the meeting planner for a group whose meetings I attended for many years. We came to the organization at almost the same time. Denise had never been involved in meeting planning that included plans for attendance by an Orthodox Jew. Her attention to every detail to make my attendance at meetings comfortable was amazing. She managed to find Kosher meals for me in highly unlikely places and learned quickly which Kosher standards were acceptable and which were not. I will miss Denise’s kindness and her attention to detail. Her other colleagues will miss the special arrangements she made for them. Her husband and children are bereft. May the Almighty heal their wounds and leave them with only pleasant memories.

Then today the 5th of Kislev we laughed with joy as our friend Miriam Brucha Cohen gave birth to her second child and first son. Baby weighed in at a whopping 11 pounds and 7 ounces. Mom and baby are doing fine. Daddy is overwhelmed. Sister Gabriella is waiting for all to return to normal. May their lives be filled with hatzlacha, brucha and mazel.
