Voices From the Ezras Nashim

Ten years ago as Tisha B'Av faded into the 10th of Av my dear friend Sandra Hoffman, Zissel bas Meir departed this world. Sandy was a marvelous and gifted teacher. Her specialty was books and reading them to children. I met Sandy in 1978 when she was the media specialist and I was a kindergarten teacher at a local day school. Sandy and I co-taught many lessons together and participated in a training session at Biscayne National Monument during which we were bitten by so many mosquitoes that there was not a square inch of our bodies, including the part under our clothes, that was not bitten. We seriously questioned bringing our students on the field trip. Ultimately we did bring them and probably because there were more of us we each suffered fewer bites.

For many years our families shared holidays and simchas. It is these joyous events that I remember with love and loss.

May the neshumah of

Zissel bas Meir

have an aliyah
