Voices From the Ezras Nashim
This week's parsha relates that the life of Sarah was one hundred years and twenty years and seven years. Rashi comments that her age is listed this way to indicate that each year of her life was equally good. Sarah was able to view the challenges of her life as good and as an opportunity for growth. She was able to see that good does not equate to perfect or even to happy. A good life is not necessarily one free from pain.
Earlier this evening Dov called to tell me that someone who had been on our mishaberach list for a long time was niftar. Jeanette Levine did not lose her battle with cancer. She completed her mission on earth and returned to her maker. During the years of Jeanette's illness a community felt her pain and responded with deep and meaningful prayer. Gradually that prayer spread to many other communities and I have no doubt that the heavenly throne itself reverberated with the force of those prayers and that they will be a source of merit as Jeanette spends her first Shabbos with HaKodesh Borchu.
As with our matriarch, Sarah, all the years of Jeanette's life were good and we feel privileged to have been allowed to daven on her behalf.
